[ When Dabi wasn't taking out the trash, racing his boss in Mario Kart, or ruffling his favorite bird's feathers, he often hung out here. Here being a decidedly seedy district in Mustafu, where no one looked twice at anyone or anything unless they had a death wish. In a way it was home, given he spent several years on its streets until he had found his footing as a villain. And now it was one of the only places he could go essentially incognito, if he ignored the increasingly wide berth people gave him.
Mostly Dabi just comes here when he's feeling a touch nostalgic or something like that anyway. And speaking of nostalgic, the sight of a certain young woman catches his eye immediately for several reasons. One, she certainly doesn't fit in with this crowd. Two, he actually knows her and she's neither his family nor a villain.
Hands in his pockets with a wry smirk, he strolls over. ]
Welcome to the neighborhood. We're all out of tour brochures.
[ This is not a place Cian should be in and that makes it the perfect place to be. She's been practicing bravery lately, partly involuntarily. It kind of comes with the territory when you live with a group as diverse and problematic as her new-found family. Every day is a new challenge in a new place that Cian has only faint familiarity with. She's living in what feels like a 24/7 history reenactment theme park for the distant past and it's definitely a learning experience.
Maybe feeling a bit like a kid in a candy shop when walking a shadowy street is also a form of being brave. But the last feelings of anxiety only lift when Dabi approaches. ]
Feels like if I had a brochure, I might get assassinated for forbidden knowledge. [ She laughs. ] I'm glad I came.
Don't need to try that hard to earn a hit here, pretty lady. [ The office descriptor didn't really fit anymore, and losing an adjective wouldn't be right either. Pretty just happens to be the next suitable word that came to mind (and aybe Hawks is rubbing off on him a bit too).
Dabi slouches back, his affect as dry as ever. ]
Yeah? Wait 'til you see the final stop of the tour.
[ Pretty, huh....? Cian is getting accustomed to compliments, Dazai is seeing to that, but it's still unexpected from Dabi. For a second she averts her eyes. ]
Well, I think it is pretty hard to make me regret coming to see you.
[ Her chaos crew might not leave any time for boredom, but Dabi's different from her family in a way that is no less important. Explaining that she'd go and visit Dabi was a little awkward, but... well. ]
[ All of this makes him tilt his head, as he takes a hand lazily out of his pocket. ]
Give it an hour. [ A little bit of his self disparagement here, cause he really doesn't think he's great company. Guess it's up to him to prove that right (or wrong). ]
Let's move unless you'd like the trash disposal detour. Got any vices you wanna check off today? [ Which he figures she'd rather not see, so he sets off walking at a fairly languid pace. The other denizens on the street are giving them a wide berth, though it's painfully obvious they're staring. ]
[ Both the distance and the looks stick out to Cian. Dabi is really respected here, it seems. Cian can't say she's surprised. His scars, his powers, his personality... They all command a kind of fear and awe. Now, if only she knew how to behave when in public with such a person and obviously being examined. She gives out a few smiles and faint nods, before realizing that this is definitely not called for here. ]
I didn't think much further than coming by, admittedly. Convincing the others to let me drop by was about half of the travel planning.
[ Well, Dabi had been involved in the death of one of them. ]
[ Between giant mythological dragons, a God being stuffed in a ramune bottle, and a conga line to punch the Sage, Laquatus somehow wound up here. Here being an elaborate courtyard of what appears to be a castle.
He is far from pleased, or impressed. So about his normal mood, all things considered. ]
And why pray tell did you bring me to this place? There's nary any water...do not tell me you reside in a landlocked environment...even a swamp would be preferable, I can feel my skin drying out already.
[ It's entirely possible there's an entire ocean behind him, he just hasn't turned around yet. ]
'cause I wanted to show you where I live! [She says this very matter-of-factly, well used to his usual sass by now, and it will absolutely not deter her from leading him around by their held hands, swinging them lightly as she goes.] Mar-Mar's busy right now, but I bet when he's not, he can come say hello, and you can meet all my friends here, too!
[None of them deserve this. She doesn't seem to realize this.]
There's a huuuge pond on the other side of the gardens, [without stopping or letting go of Laquatus's hand, she turns around to look up at him, walking backwards,] if you wanna take a break from walking.
[ Tiki gets the most put upon look to the handholding, but a bet is a bet. His clasp around her hand is dainty and light, do be careful of his rings because they're probably all poisonous if used as a stabbing device. ]
My wager is with you, not with them. [ Some muttering about how he would do fine at court anyway even if it's been a while, he'll have to pull out his best robes blah blah blah... ]
I never want to hear that word again. Nor do I need rest, I have resided for months at a time in swampland and the hearts of cities. Some refreshments would be welcome, however.
[ There's so many things wrong with this situation that it's impossible to pick a good place to start. Or it might be more like Ukyo doesn't want to focus on the more dire things at all, so instead he picks one of the mundane ones to stop and stare at. Well kinda mundane, because he's never seen a vending machine like this before. ]
Ah, are they providing drinks and snacks for us? But I don't have any money, which is probably for the best... [ There's some assumptions going on cause the vending machine face is blank. Who knows what it actually dispenses? ]
[ Whoops was he talking out loud to himself again? Well he didn't mean to attract company, but it's fine—the fellow green haired stranger is met with a bashful smile. ]
I don't think I'm strong enough to move it... I do have long arms but—[ Edging closer to the machine, he hesitates. ]
You haven't heard of anyone dying to a vending machine before, right?
So I hear, but it means people usually stay away from me. That's a good thing, so I don't really mind. [ He's strikingly self-aware so the rudeness is OK! ]
No, I'm not afraid. At least not yet, and I use a digital camera pretty frequently and I haven't had a problem with it yet.
[It's certainly a messed up situation all around, but there are parts of it that are familiar to Mei that probably aren't familiar to many people. They're not the important thing at the moment, though. Just at the moment, she's pulled up at the vending machine too. By sheer coincidence. She's not one to rubberneck.]
... It looks better than the kitchen.
[If only because literally everything there is canned. An anonymous vending machine at least has a possibility or two. She doesn't look especially hopeful, though.]
Really? I haven't been there yet, I try to stay clear of kitchens if I can. [ There's a palpable note of genuine disappointment in his voice, this place really is unfortunate it seems. Hmmn, what to do, what to do... ]
[She looks from him to the vending machine and back again. Blinks once, slow, as though to take in either his new position in relation to the vending machine's offerings or just his disappointment.]
... You don't like kitchens?
Edited (why is typing hard!!!) 2019-09-13 05:30 (UTC)
I'm a little too old for school, and I was never very good at it either. This is a fitting punishment in that way, and it was bound to happen sooner or later.
[ It is what it is, a small smile settling onto his features as he regards both the girl and vending machine. Even appliances need assuaging smiles, maybe. ]
[ what better way to spend your night than at a neon electric rave? well, not everyone's made to party, and the young man standing off to the side looks like one of those, particularly since he actually seems to be literally growing into the wall. brown branches tipped with light blue buds seem to be sprouting from his back, but maybe he's been here a really long time or maybe he just decided this was the attire of the night instead of neon fishnets and chains. ]
...I don't think I could interfere in such a gathering even if I tried. [ words lost, perhaps to the air (?). ]
[ A rather tall individual goes to lean on the wall next to him, long legs crossing over the other as he sips on a tall drink that looks more like a dessert than anything suiting a rave. ]
Are you trying to interfere? [ The stranger tilts his head in amusement, looking at him, eyes flitting to tree branches and back to his face, seeming to tell him to go on. ]
[ septem has no drink in his possession, instead his hands are lightly clasped behind his back in a polite but also somewhat awkward posture. ]
No, it would be improper of me to do so, but I couldn't help but note the magnitude of this...chaos? [ question mark very much heard, he really seems to be searching for a polite way to describe a party that would make any club scene proud. ]
